previous() is broken

!6584 (merged) broke the previous() function. Discovered while using cheatmode to explore RESS, but also affects the few other places previous() is used.

previous() seems to be working fine here. May I get a save file, please?

Problem exists on a fresh new game with cheatmode for me. previous___error.save

Problem also occurs in Firefox 75.0.
